Event Description

Join us as Dolly Foster, Horticulture Program Assistant for the Purdue Lake County Extension, speaks about the benefits of biodiversity.

Biodiversity is one of the most important aspects of modern gardening. Without it our gardens are virtual deserts. The basic tenant is biodiversity increases beneficial insects which in turn control garden pests. Home gardens and urban gardens can offer beneficial insects a broad range of plant species, micro climates and habitat. Encouraging biodiversity also benefits the gardener. Gardening is a well know stress reducing activity enhanced by small wildlife and interesting insects.
