Belinda Potoma, opera-lover and former member of the Lyric Opera lecture corps, will present the opera with musical excerpts from the 1774 version that premiered in Paris.
Gluck’s French version of his "Tragic opera in three acts”, includes some of his most loved and enlightened music. The story follows the legendary figure of Greek mythology, Orpheus the supreme musician, as he faces the flames of Hades in a heroic quest to rescue his beloved Eurydice from death. The opera is celebrated for its innovative ballet, its choruses in Other-Worldly musical roles of Shades and Furies and its riveting arias that convey the suffering of a man who must accept an unacceptable fate.
The opera runs at the Lyric Opera from September 23rd to October 15th.
